Beau Torres (b. 1989, Powder Springs, GA) is a photo–based artist living and working in New York. He holds a BFA in Studio Art with a Concentration in Photography from Georgia State University, and earned his MFA in Advanced Photographic Studies from the International Center of Photography–Bard. His main interests lie in everyday life as well as apophenia, the tendency to find meaning or relationships in seemingly random data/phenomena. The work he makes is concerned with 🆕🆕 Photography, a dialect of photography situated at the intersection of still–life tradition, assemblage, and online culture. Within his studio practice, he creates a visual language juxtaposing genuine sentiments with throwaway objects/phrases to both critique and embrace a societal mindset of cynicism and irony.
Current interests include:
art therapy, museum studies, and community–oriented practice
Past interests include:
elegance/eloquence, wit/wordplay, and self-referentiality/self–reflexivity
abstraction, gestures, and parallel planes
geometric planes, shapes, and colors
